WIN THE DERBY FOR THE FANS

Sir Alex Ferguson says his players cannot done well on the draw at Blackburn Rovers and its ramifications on the title race as Saturday's trip to Manchester City is so vital - as much for local pride as to the Reds finishing the season strongly.

Those in the red half of the city have endured an emotional fortnight, in which United have exited Europe - dishearteningly on away goals against Bayern Munich - and made the title Chelsea's to lose with defeat against Carlo Ancelotti's side and further dropped points at Ewood Park on Sunday.

Sir Alex now insists that, regardless of what is happening in the title race, Saturday's trip to Eastlands is a must-win for the fans.

“City is a derby game, so that takes away the issue of chasing the league," he told MUTV. "It’s a derby, it’s its own entity, and is all about supporters’ pride and bragging rights for the next few months. It’s a game we’re looking forward to."

The momentum is with City; they're flying high after a 5-1 win over Birmingham on Sunday and a 6-1 victory against Burnley the weekend before.

United, on the other hand, have lost against Bayern Munich (on away goals over two legs) been defeated by Chelsea and drawn with Blackburn, and now face having to turn around a run of poor results in one of the most emotive games in the fixture calendar.

All this week on ManUtd.com we'll be analysing the three derby games so far this season in depth. Let's hope on Saturday we come out on top as we have done overall so far this season.
